The 2016 Archaeology Expo will be held at Casa Grande Ruins National Monument on Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 9 AM to 4 PM. The Archaeology Expo will kick off a month long celebration of archaeology and heritage. Join us at this event. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS: Opening Ceremony: (Interpretive Ramada) 9:00 – 9:15 am Presentations: (Located in the Theatre): · 10:00 am: “The Evolution of Ruins Conservation at Tumacacori National Historical Park: The Case Study of the Convento Compound” – Alex Lim, Tumacacori/NPS · 11:30 am: “The Casa Grande Community in the Hohokam World” – Dr. Doug Craig, President/Friends of Casa Grande Ruins · 1:00 pm: “Casa Grande Ruins National Monument: Significance, Intervention, and Stewardship” – R. Brooks Jeffery, Director/Drachman Institute, University of Arizona(follows with a tour of the Compound) · 2:30 pm: “Southwestern Rock Calendars and Ancient Time Pieces” – Allen Dart, Executive Director/Old Pueblo Archaeology Center The day includes: • Demonstrations • On-site Tours • Offsite Tours Arizona Archaeology and Heritage Awareness Month: March is Arizona Archaeology and Heritage Awareness Month. As part of the month long celebration, various organizations from around the state provide opportunities for the public to engage in archaeology and history. Numerous presentations, displays, hikes, and demonstrations are scheduled throughout the state of Arizona within the Month of March. The Arizona State Historic Preservation Office captures these various events and consolidates them into a handy brochure that is organized by location and date. These brochures have been printed and distributed to our partners. These brochures are also available on our website in digital formats (www.azstateparks.com/archy).
