STEM-Related Professional Development This Summer

Following is Arizona Project WET’s line-up of free teacher professional development Academies for the summer that will 

· evolve teachers’ instructional practices, 

· deepen their content knowledge, and 

· guide them to engage their students in systems thinking for deeper learning. 

These Academies also give teachers access to APW resources such as STEM curriculum, STEM coaching for implementing new instructional practices and curriculum, and APW-facilitated lessons that teachers can invite into their classrooms to excite student learning.

June 1-2: Exploring the Colorado River STEM Academy 

Discover the Colorado River Watershed through engaging activities and systems thinking. 

Location: City of Avondale Municipal Operations Service Center 

June 6: Project WET 2.0 Workshop 

Explore the exciting topic of water science and receive a new Project WET 2.0 Curriculum Guide. Grades 3-6 

Location: Burton Barr Library, Central and McDowell.

 

June 19-23: Water Solutions: Past, Present, and Future 

Learn about the past, present and future of the Phoenix Valley’s water supply. Location: Salt River Project 1 E Continental Dr., Tempe 

July 18-19: UA/ASU Advanced Water Educators Workshop 

Explore the ever-important topic of water as you meet researchers from ASU and U of A, along with local municipal and state experts, and adapt materials to enhance your current water programs. 

Location: ASU Decision Center for a Desert City 

June 6, 27 or July 11: Systems Thinking 101 

Learn new ways to engage your students in thinking. Using a shared language and set method, students become directors of their own learning! Systems Thinking 101 is a prerequisite for any Aqua STEM Academy. Location: Varies 

June 7-8: Aqua STEM: School Water Audit Academy 

Kids know how to save water through their actions. But can they employ and design simple technology to save even more? 

Location: Gilbert Public Schools District Offices, Gilbert, AZ 

June 27-28: Aqua STEM: Riparian Habitat Exploration Academy 

How can we focus science and engineering to better understand and care for the environment? Through a Riparian Habitat Exploration! Location: Maricopa County Cooperative Extension, 4341 E Broadway Rd., Phoenix 

July 11-12: Aqua STEM: Rainwater Harvesting Academy 

A simple rainwater harvesting system makes learning engineering design fun and relevant. Engage you students through this STEM unit. Location: City of Avondale Municipal Operations Service Center
