What is it?

Interactive Television (ITV) is a distance-learning technology when successfully implemented provides additional learning opportunities for more college and high school students.

How is it done?

  • College centers are provided for off-campus learning opportunities

  • Pre-planning by faculty and staff is important for ITV courses

  • Online courses are being continuously updated and more opportunities provided for long distance learners as needs and requests arise

  • Rely on full time Dean of Extended Learning and department Director, support staff and media specialist

  • Budget:  Staff and administrator support (Dean, Director and Media Specialist)

What are the results?

  • Military personnel are able to continue their education while deployed or reassigned to a different military base

  • More students who are unable to travel to the college’s main campus can still further their education

  • ITV can help maintain lower education costs

  • Provide more consistent access to courses

  • Requires students to keep up with the course work rather than the course work moving forward at the students’ pace

What have we learned?

  • More students can participate in education

  • Great opportunity for military families

  • Difficult to schedule courses for some students with different academic calendars

  • Some students do not like ITV courses

  • Some courses are more difficult to teach online (labs)
