STEM Clubs Sponsorship Opportunities

Spring 2015

Supporting STEM Club Blocks

Beginning Spring 2015, Science Foundation Arizona (SFAz) invites local businesses and philanthropic organizations to sponsor SFAz-supported STEM Club Blocks, and take part in an inquiry-based learning model that is so successful it is inspiring replication in numerous other states.

In 2012, SFAz piloted STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Clubs in 11 schools across Arizona.  Today, there are nearly 200 SFAz initiated STEM Clubs across Arizona directly impacting 2,000 students, and the momentum is growing rapidly.  Defined as “any gathering of students that meet regularly in an informal environment to work on inquiry-based STEM activities,” a STEM Club might take the form of an out-of-school club or additional activities embedded within the regular school day.  STEM Clubs meet the needs of students from pre-school through college and can vary greatly in focus and activities.

Using the knowledge gained from this pilot and working with a statewide Informal STEM Education Committee comprising nearly 100 educators, philanthropists, business representatives, and government officials, SFAz developed a STEM Club Model that could easily be replicated on a large scale.  During the past two years, SFAz has facilitated two statewide STEM Club conferences, coordinated the creation of an online STEM Club Guide, provided seed funding and support for 187 STEM Clubs across 12 Arizona counties, and helped to network almost 200 STEM Clubs statewide.  These STEM Club efforts have proven so successful, that educators in at least 12 other states are considering adopting the SFAz STEM Club Model.

Tailoring Your Support

Building on the success of SFAz’s past STEM Club efforts, we are inviting businesses and philanthropic organizations, through sponsorship to help expand the reach of these efforts.  Sponsors now have the opportunity to support STEM Club Blocks –- groups of clubs selected by geographic, demographic or content focus.  Sponsorships can be tailored to meet the specific needs and interests of the sponsors,.  However, all sponsored clubs will adhere to the SFAz STEM Club Model and  will be held to the highest standards and SFAz will ensure quality control and maximum impact of all sponsor investments.
