What is it?

K-12 Director uses all forms of traditional and non-traditional social media to increase awareness of early STEM education opportunities

How is it done?

  • Rely on a K-12 Director who is critical to the program’s success presents Early College opportunities to high school students during their high school history class which is required of all students. The Director makes an impact and creates excitement in most students

  • The Director personalizes the message with the specifics of the program and the benefits of the early college learning opportunities

  • All sophomores are required to take history.  The Director and the high school teacher coordinate the presentation schedule

  • Interested students are encouraged to share the information with their parents

  • The college’s Marketing and Advertising Department use all forms of social media to inform parents and students about college opportunities:  Twitter, Facebook, Website updates, LinkedIn, Google, Tumblr, Pinterest, Reddit, StumbleUpon, and Email.

  • Budget:  K-12 Director / administrator support or social media marketing specialist

What are the results?

  • Students become more knowledgeable about opportunities regarding the early college requirements

  • Using social media links to connect to people who may have missed traditional methods of communication

What have we learned?

  • Include personalized delivery allowing for interaction with students
  • Students and parents appreciate the ability to see details of programs and opportunities
  • Interested students do take the information home to parents
  • Best to keep all forms of media current and monitor constantly

  • Technology can reach more people with less cost
